Application for 501(c)3 submitted

I’m proud to say that on May 5, we submitted our application for 501(c)3 status to the IRS. You can read the entire application on our website if you’d like to know more:

Legal Documents

We expect to hear back from the IRS by early November. This is based on a number of factors:

1. We had help from a couple of similar organizations who both heard back in about 3 months time: Gateway to Gov and DemocracyLab – thank you both!
2. We hired a lawyer who has expertise in these sort of things.
3. At the time of submission, the IRS was reporting a 60 day backlog in reviewing applications. (On the hopeful side, they are apparently working REALLY hard to catch up however…)
